Revival!

This iteration of Revival! is a multi-sited public space video and performance installation emerging from and attuned to the spiritual practices of Black folks. Coordinating with community and producing partners in Philadelphia with whom artist Rashid Zakat has long standing relationships, he will organise a series of 4 pop up performances of Revival! in specific outdoor public spaces culminating into a full day of Revival! The locations across neighborhood hubs, sacred spaces and thoroughfares in Philadelphia brings an unique opportunity for chance encounters with the installation, alongside the dedicated arts audience and community base who will be attracted to this work. The projected images and video will draw on archival footage, originally produced video art, and live performance weaved with AI generated imagery. During the day, the installation will function as a third space resembling a coffeeshop or a reading room. Partnering with local coffee roasters, vendors and bookshops, the installation will be an invitation to community members to read, discuss and enjoy communing with fellow community members. Zakat will partner with Spirits Up and community members to offer yoga, meditation, breathwork and other somatic practices.
