Odili Donald Odita is one of Philadelphia's most prominent and respected artists, working at a grand scale in dazzling color. His work is currently on display in the lobby of the Museum of Modern Art.
Odita's new original piece for What Now: 2026 is exhilarating not just in its magnitude but also in its message: The unhoused people who gather to eat and be in community at Broad Street Love deserve access to beauty as well as sustenance. This is a continuation of the social service organization's philosophy of "radical hospitality."
OPEN HOURS: 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays (through July 2)
"Freedom is..." will be celebrated with an opening reception: Saturday, May 30, 4-5:30 p.m. The event is FREE but please RSVP HERE.

Nigerian-American artist Odili Donald Odita has created a monumental new work for Philadelphia. Freedom is… takes the form of a triptych of sheer fabric banners suspended from the vaulted ceiling of Broad Street Love, a historic site of sanctuary on South Broad Street. Bathed in light from the site's stained-glass windows, the work pulses with abstract shapes and vibrant color — a visual response to its own open-ended title. Created in collaboration with The Fabric Workshop and Museum, this permanent commission honors Philadelphia as both the birthplace of America and a sanctuary city, and lifts up the voices of those whose contributions have too often gone unrecognized.
