What To Do While You’re Waiting, is a public art takeover that will make use of Septa bus shelters to engage families waiting for public transit. The goal is simple: To look up and out at the world together, rather than looking down and alone at a screen. The vertical “poster” space in bus shelters will feature artistically designed looking games and conversation starters that spur intergenerational creative conversations about the surrounding vicinity. This project addresses the theme of What Now quite directly— by teaching children and families how to creatively engage in our city, we will help build skills that will benefit the next generation of artists, problem solvers, and citizens.
Liz and Emily will draw on their work creating family guides and family exhibitions for the PMA to inspire these posters, which will then be designed by a graphic artist. The content will also take inspiration from WHYY’s children’s TV productionThe Good Neighbor ClubHunt, a series geared towards children ages 6-9 that premieres in the summer of 2026. In the show, which is a loose sequel to 2023’s The Infinite Art Hunt, Freddie explores what it means to be a good neighbor and finds ways to make a positive impact on her communities. What To Do While You’re Waiting can bring The Good Neighbor Club’s’s mission to life and directly to the community.
