Sound of History: Black Music City at the Museum of the American Revolution

For the very first time, the Museum of the American Revolution will create a residency for selected musicians from Black Music City, a collaboration between WXPN, WRTI and RECPhilly. These resident artists will learn the Museum’s collections, attend programming and educational meetings, and then create original musical works focused on contemporary interpretations of the sounds of 1776. What did the Revolution sound like? What did people shout in the streets of 1776 Philadelphia? What music was played on the battlefield to give orders to soldiers? What conversations were people having in taverns, and at the docks of the Delaware River? These new compositions will be performed in the museum and in venues in the historic district from churches to other museums.
