In conjunction with First Friday, attend a FREE opening reception for the gallery exhibition: Friday, June 5 at 5 p.m. at Twelve Gates Arts (106 N. 2nd St.).
As part of this project, sāgar kāmath will also present Myths and Dreams of Red & Blue: June 12 at 8 p.m. at the Gordon Gallery at Weitzman Hall at the University of Pennsylvania. FREE; please register HERE.
This night of storytelling and mythical journeying weaves together Kathak dance, painting, video, and sound in a one-night-only, one-man show. Produced in relation to the paintings sāgar created for the summer 2026 group show A Traveler Weeps, A River Laughs at Twelve Gates Arts and the banners created for the front facade of the Parkway Central Library, this will be an intimate evening exploring diasporic identity, nostalgia, boyhood, and the pursuit of the American Dream.
Twelve Gates Arts will present an exhibition that reflects the theme of the country's 250th anniversary while delving into complex questions of identity, migration, and historical narratives. Titled A Traveler Weeps, A River Laughs, the project features works by filmmaker Shehrezad Maher, whose film The Curfew explores memory, historical trauma, and intergenerational experiences, alongside diasporic artists sāgar kāmath, Alexei Mansour, and poet Mir Masud-Elias — all connected to Philadelphia's artistic community. The exhibition creates a multidimensional storytelling experience spanning film, poetry, mixed-media installation, and conceptual research. Through these diverse artistic expressions, the exhibition will invite audiences to reflect on the journeys that have shaped our collective histories and the diverse lived experiences that continue to define our shared present.
Myths and Dreams of Red & Blue is presented in partnership with Twelve Gates Arts, ArtPhilly's What Now: 2026 festival, and the University of Pennsylvania Weitzman School of Design.
