Basil Biggs: Cast Announcement

June 15, 2026

ArtPhilly is thrilled to announce the star-studded cast of this groundbreaking world premiere.

Playwright, actor, and professor Anna Deavere Smith is bringing a piece of her family history to the stage of the Wilma Theater on June 26, 27 & 28.

Basil Biggs traces the life story of her great-great-grandfather. A farmer, veterinarian, and prominent Gettysburg figure, he received a contract to disinter and rebury the Union dead after the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. Smith uses available archival material to imagine how he and his family met the challenges of a tumultuous and transformative time.

We are thrilled to announce the star-studded cast of this groundbreaking world premiere. There are familiar faces from the Broadway stage and the silver screen, including The Pitt, Interview with the Vampire, and Blue Bloods.
